100,000 Cans of Soup for Local Food Banks
CALABASAS HILLS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 21, 2009--
During Hunger Action Month this September, The
Cheesecake Factory will visit 30 cities in 30 days on the “Drive Out
Hunger” Tour™ collecting soup cans in support of Feeding
America, the nation’s largest hunger-relief charity. The first 500
attendees to donate two cans of soup at each tour event will receive a
complimentary slice of the restaurant’s new Stefanie’s Ultimate Red
Velvet Cake Cheesecake™.
Prior to the tour’s official start in Los Angeles on September 1, The
Cheesecake Factory will kick off the “Drive Out Hunger” Tour on August 31
with a star-studded event at its headquarters in Calabasas Hills,
Calif. featuring actor David Arquette who serves as Feeding America’s
Entertainment Council Chairman. The kick-off event will also include a
live performance by Interscope recording artist Tamar
Kaprelian whose hit single, “New Day,” will serve as the tour anthem.
The “Drive Out Hunger” Tour will travel coast-to-coast visiting a
different Cheesecake Factory restaurant each day in September. The tour
will conclude September 30 in Washington, D.C. followed by an
announcement of the total number of soup cans collected throughout the
month. A tour schedule and updates from the road are available at www.TheCheesecakeFactory.com/Share.
“As one of America’s favorite restaurants, we believe it is important to
support the communities that have supported us for so many years,” said
David Overton, Founder of The Cheesecake Factory. “We are honored to
continue our partnership with Feeding America and encourage our guests
to join us in our drive to collect 100,000 cans of soup for our local
food banks this September.”
Event attendees who donate cans of soup will have their picture taken
for the “Drive Out Hunger” Tour microsite. Pictures taken at the events
will become part of a large mosaic image that will be revealed on
October 1 at www.TheCheesecakeFactory.com/Share.
As the tour comes to a close, all Cheesecake Factory restaurants
nationwide will invite guests to support their local food bank with the
“You Dine, We Donate™” event. On September 30, guests who bring in two
cans of soup when they dine at any Cheesecake Factory will have 10
percent of their guest check donated to the local food bank.
“We are very pleased The Cheesecake Factory has chosen to work with
Feeding America on a multi-faceted outreach effort to raise awareness of
this important issue as well as to coordinate both food and financial
donations to support our local food banks,” said Vicki Escarra,
President and CEO of Feeding America. “The ‘Drive Out Hunger’ Tour
provides an excellent opportunity for communities across the country to
join The Cheesecake Factory and Feeding America in the fight to end
hunger in America.”
